Diversity Journal is inspired by the EU motto, United in Diversity, and tells the stories of how individuals, communities, organisations, and local and national authorities have worked with the EU to make Ireland a more open, equal and diverse society.
In this new publication, we learn about the extraordinary work happening in communities across Ireland that is connecting with and supporting key groups including young people, refugees and asylum seekers, and families in need. We hear how new and innovative services and projects are tackling isolation and mental health. We find out about programmes supporting women entrepreneurs and a new push for greater diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We also learn about Ireland’s role in an EU project to raise awareness of anti-LGBT hate crime.
These stories demonstrate the strong partnership between Ireland and the EU in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and bringing about positive change, with the support of European funding programmes, awards and initiatives.
The European Commission is engaged in achieving a Union of equality and is putting in place mechanisms, policies and actions that challenge structural discrimination and the stereotypes that are often present in our societies. This will help to create the conditions for everyone to live, thrive and lead regardless of differences based on sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation. An equal Union will also ensure that decision-making takes into account the needs of everyone in our societies.
