The Irish project is one of 5 winners in the main categories out of 61 finalists from across the EU with exemplary initiatives of the New European Bauhaus and will receive a monetary prize of €30,000 for their accomplished project.
Ripple trialled a collaborative place-based approach to climate resilient green space in towns. With a community in Ballina that had faced socio-economic challenges, the project built the Paradise Garden, a climate-friendly intergenerational amenity space and wildlife haven, where rainwater is slowed through a series of rills, wells and natural attenuation on its way to the river.
The third edition of the New European Bauhaus Prizes received more than 1,400 applications from EU Member States and for the first time, applications for initiatives in the Western Balkans. In the context of the European Year of Skills, the Prizes 2023 also included an additional strand focused on education and learning.
