Temple Bar 35: Celebrating 35 years of Temple Bar

Thirty-five years ago, Temple Bar nearly became a bus depot. Instead, a city chose culture — backed by EU funding that transformed these cobbled streets into Dublin’s creative heart.

That investment built more than buildings. It built a place. Today, 68,000 people pass through daily — families, visitors, new communities who find a quarter of culture and hospitality; bars, restaurants, and cafés that welcome and employ thousands.

This summer, Temple Bar 35 celebrates with six months of free music, comedy, film, art, history, and community events. Supported by the European Commission, Dublin City Council Office of City Recovery, the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Diageo.

Local artists are properly paid, and almost every event is free, because culture shouldn’t come with a price tag and every euro is reinvested here in Temple Bar. Walk, cycle, or take the Luas; come from where you are, as you are. There’s a seat, a stage, and a summer here for you.
