‘Me, You and the EU’ – a new educational film for young people by the European Commission

In celebration of Europe Day 2021, the European Commission Representation in Ireland is launching a new short film about the EU, created with young people, for young people.

Mise, tusa agus an AE

‘Me, You and the EU’ is a fast-paced twenty five minute educational film which tells the story of Ireland and the European Union in a fun and accessible way. Over the course of five chapters, Irish teenagers from across the country ask key questions about the EU to find out what Ireland’s EU membership means for them.

Viewers can follow the teenagers on a journey to discover more about the history of the EU from the post war era of the 1950s right up to the present day. The teenagers learn about EU policies, how the different institutions work, and how the EU is responding to the current challenges of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The film features Ireland’s EU Commissioner, Mairead McGuinness, and Irish MEPs Maria Walsh and Clare Daly. It also offers an insight into traineeships and career opportunities for young people, with an emphasis on the importance of language learning.

The Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland, Andy Klom, said:

Me, You and the EU’ is an exciting new resource for young people who want to learn more about Ireland and the European Union. The launch of this short film just ahead of Europe Day is very fitting as the film tells the story of the EU since its inception on 9 May 1950. I hope this film will encourage young people to think about the impact of Europe on their daily lives and the opportunities it offers for their future, not least in terms of studying and work.

The film is aimed at schools and may be used as a classroom resource.

It will be available to view online on this website from 7 May.

Support materials for teachers are also available to download from the same link.
