Every year in September, the President of the European Commission delivers the State of the Union address before the European Parliament. The President takes stock of the achievements so far and sets out her vision for the future.
The speech is followed by a plenary debate. This kick-starts the dialogue with the European Parliament and the Council to prepare the Commission Work Programme for the year 2023. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, will deliver her third State of the Union address on 14 September 2022.
On Thursday morning 8 September we will host, together with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland and European Movement Ireland, a round table on the upcoming State of the Union debate. This event will provide the opportunity for key Irish stakeholders to have their say on what they want to hear in this year’s State of the Union address and debate.

The event will be moderated by Emmet Ryan, Connected Editor, Business Post.
Format: Our panel of stakeholders will speak for five minutes each, highlighting three issues they want to hear about in the State of the Union debate, which will take place on 14 September in the European Parliament. This will be followed by the MEPs responses to the points raised by the panel and will conclude with closing statements from each speaker.
